Qatar is known as the earliest producer of shellfish dye, produced in a factory located in the Al Khor Islands. During Mohammed bin Thani’s rule from 1847 to 1876, the flag unified the state through the purple-red color. The British proposed a change from purple-red to white and red in 1932.
